It must be boring to read about my work all the time. It is very exciting to me, but is the true depth of my feelings conveyed? “Passion” is a strong word, and, in any case, watching someone else be passionate is not always entertaining. Mea culpa; perhaps I have not presented the (hidden?) inner beauty of the subject accurately. So, this kind of post is one of a dying breed.
Having made this excuse, today was once again devoted to research software. Unlike before, I feel more excited than tense as the deadline looms up ahead. We have so little concrete results, but if all goes well, that will change in the upcoming week. My plan is to push some of the dirty work to my collaborator, while I finish off the writing of the paper itself. Since the “dirty” work is mostly watching the computer twirl the code for endless meaningless-looking numbers, I hope that we can, in reality, write together. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn’t. It depends on the authors and their chemistry. But I learned a lot from my supervisors in this way, and I’m hoping to pass on some of the knowledge.
However, the first task tomorrow is taking care of the new Honours students. It is their first meeting and there is some information to convey and gather. Nothing too serious, but it will probably consume 3 hours of the morning, which is pretty much the whole morning! (The rest will be consumed by my commute, an early meeting, administration, and frictional wastage.)
Oops! Completely lost my train of thought as to the title of the post! The point is (or was going to be) that I had a long list of to-do’s for this weekend and I only accomplished a fraction, but at least I wasn’t wasting time. As long as I keep on carrying the small rocks, I’ll eventually shift the mountain. (Under the assumption that it really is shiftable. Obviously, this is not a very big mountain.)
