All packed up and set for the trip tomorrow. It is only to Pretoria and only for four days, but matters are complicated because just before I leave I still have to teach a three-hour lecture. I *think* that everything has been organized, so things should go smoothly. In fact, the biggest worry I have is missing out on seeing an old school friend. Our schedules are so tight that it might not be possible.
One of the last tasks I had tonight was finishing the class test for Friday. All of the tests are monkey puzzles and I have a script that shuffles the answers randomly. Pseudo-randomly. But I realized that this is not always a good idea. The options for one of the tests were arranged in such a way that it looks as if there is a clue to the answer! Changing the random seed was good enough, but I found it odd to realize that there is more to presenting the options than just random order.
Even though my schedule slipped dramatically in the previous couple of weeks, I’m still rather pleased with the organization of the course. The presentation is another matter, but that will adjust itself over time. I just hope my other course goes as well.
