Recovering from the rejection!
It isn’t that bad. The paper will have to be revised and submitted again, and there are many places to do that. I was looking forward to going to the conference, but at least I’ll save some money now. No matter who funded the trip, I would have dipped into some private funds. And there isn’t really any time to feel sorry for myself (our ourselves in this case): there are two papers due in May and one in June. I might submit a journal paper in June as well and there are two papers with students in the pipeline. Plus an older unfinished paper from Finland. That’s not even mentioning some even older work that still needs to be written up. So, my plate is full. This is an important matter to me because I’m halfway through my 6 months of research time and my goal is still to produce (i.e., publish) six papers. Of course, there is a lot of other work, too. Today I was late for the workshop because we were discussing new work at the department. All in all I’m feeling quite upbeat.
The workshop was fine, but perhaps the most interesting part was a little online test we were given: http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/mind/surveys/smiles/index.shtml. I highly recommend it.
